Sudanese, from Darfur; seeking Professional Post Graduate degree in Master of Applied Human Rights Studies and is enrolled at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
Whenever I'm asked to tell my story, I often find myself stuttering, caught up in memories of my childhood and the sights of my home. These moments, whether sad or happy, have shaped who I am today. As my father used to say, "You won't have a present without a past,". Growing up as a Sudanese woman from Darfur, was not easy, we faced many challenges, and limited opportunities. I am Hager—a student and a Human Rights activist, who grew up as a refugee in Khartoum, survived many obstacles and the genocide in Darfur.
In 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor's in English Languages and Translation, after which I made several trips to Darfur to conduct peace and reconciliation projects and support education. Over the years, Sudan has become a country that frequently violates human and women's rights, more specifically due to the current war, due to which my family ended up fleeing for the 3rd time, therefore, I dedicated myself to becoming a women's and Human Rights activist. For the past nine years, I have worked to help women in Sudan. I founded a project called “It’s All About You Queens,” which supports women in pursuing their dreams and aspirations. To further promote human rights, I applied, and been accepted into the Master’s program in Applied Human Rights in Vienna.
Here, I aim to gain not only knowledge but also the strength and passion to carry back home, to help create a land that respects human rights, democracy, and justice.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
With the frequent violations of human rights due to the war in Sudan, the genocide in Darfur has massively escalated. Women are being sold and endlessly harassed. I don't feel lucky at all; in fact, I feel helpless, but hopeful and very eager to make a change. By supporting my campaign, you are helping not only me but also the women, and help creating a land that will come to respect both women’s and human rights, democracy, and justice.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
This is where my family's words echo in my head: "My real happiness begins when I see/make other people happy." -
By transforming hope into action, I plan to pay back by dedicating my education and skills to advocating for human rights and social justice in Sudan. I aim to work tirelessly to empower women, promote human rights, and contribute to creating a fair and just society. My vision followed by efforts will focus on building sustainable programs that uplift marginalized communities and drive lasting change.
- "From dreams to reality, I envision a Sudan where justice blooms, and everyone's voice echoes in the halls of justice and equality."
