Syrian, from idlib; seeking Undergraduate degree in Biomedical science and is enrolled at Lebanese International University.
"If only we had known sooner." Those words haunt me. In 2017, my grandmother was diagnosed with leukemia and diabetes—but by then, it was too late. She had suffered in silence for years because we couldn’t afford routine medical check-ups. That helplessness broke my heart and ignited a purpose within me.
My name is Maryam Al-Hammadi, a 20-year-old biomedical sciences student from Idlib, Syria. My family arrived in Lebanon in 2012, seeking safety but encountering new challenges. We were the first Syrian family in Rashaya, and the only displaced students in our school. My parents, unable to finish their own education, taught me to hold tight to my dreams, no matter the obstacles.
Adjusting from an Arabic curriculum in Syria to a curriculum in English was adding insult to our injury. I had to teach myself English with no support. Despite everything, I excelled and eventually tutored younger students to help support my family.
Now, as a university student, I chose biomedical sciences as my path, inspired by my grandmother's experience. My mission is to provide regular, affordable health check-ups for the elderly and underserved communities to catch diseases early. With your support, I can gain the skills to make healthcare accessible. Health is a right, not a luxury.
All I need is $1824 to cover my tuition fees
With your help, we can change the world—saving one life before it's too late.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
With your support, I will not only gain the expertise needed to make early diagnosis accessible but also become an advocate for the right to health for those who cannot afford it. Together, we can make a lasting impact by empowering people to live healthier lives, free from preventable suffering.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I plan to volunteer with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders to provide medical support to those in need, focusing on those who cannot afford essential health services. I will raise awareness about diseases through free clinical workshops, both online and on-site.
Additionally, I am passionate about supporting education for girls, helping them access opportunities, and sharing my skills with my community to inspire others and demonstrate the power of education.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital
I volunteered at INTERSOS and we worked on:
- Raising awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Assisting registration on the vaccine platform to ensure people can receive the vaccine easily.
- Advocating Children's and women's rights.
- Raising awareness about early marriage and the importance of education
- Drawing a smile on children's faces through recreational activities.
