Syrian, from Damascus; seeking Undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Computer Science and is enrolled at Lebanese American University.
My name is Raghad, and I never imagined I would have to ask for help to continue my education. I Born in Damascus, my family lost everything in the war and had to start over in Lebanon. Starting over was extremely difficult, but I always believed that education could give me a chance to rebuild what we lost.
Over the years, I explored many fields through workshops, volunteering, and school programs. But the moment I discovered technology, something clicked. I fell in love with coding, problem-solving, and understanding how systems work. Learning about robotics and AI strengthened my passion and confirmed that Computer Science is the field where I feel most alive, creative, and capable of building a better future.
After years of hard work, I was accepted to study Computer Science at university. However, I now face a financial barrier I cannot overcome alone.
It’s very difficult for me to ask for help, especially after everything my family has been through escaping war, starting from zero, and trying to build a stable life again. But I refuse to give up on my dream. I want to continue my education, become a programmer, and someday give back to others the same way people are helping me now.
If you are able to contribute or even share my story, it would truly mean the world to me. Every bit of support brings me one step closer to staying in university and continuing the journey I’ve worked so hard to start.
With gratitude,
Raghad
Why Would Donors Fund You?
Donors should fund me because I am determined, responsible, and committed to using education to create impact. From a limited financial background, I explored workshops, volunteering, and academics to find my passion in technology. Support will let me develop my skills and give back to my community.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I plan to pay back by leveraging my education and skills to create tangible value in both my professional field and my community. This includes contributing to technology-driven initiatives, mentoring and supporting students and youth, and leading projects that address real challenges in society. I aim to foster opportunities for others who face financial or social barriers, just as donors have enabled me to pursue my goals. By translating my knowledge into meaningful action and building programs that promote learning, innovation, and social development, I will ensure that the support I receive generates lasting benefits beyond my personal success.
Volunteer Work/Social Capital
I have actively engaged in volunteer work that combines education, mentorship, and community support. I taught refugee children under the age of eight, helping them build foundational skills in a safe and supportive environment. I also contributed to Takafol Association and Life Sculptor NGO by creating educational materials and presentations.
These experiences have strengthened my leadership, communication, and organizational skills while allowing me to give back to my community. They reflect my belief in using knowledge and skills not only for personal growth but to positively impact others and build meaningful social connections.
What Have You Done to Improve Yourself? Awards and Achievements
I am committed to continuous learning and have participated in workshops and programs in programming, robotics, public speaking, creative writing, psychology, nutrition, and health studies. I attended university summer camps and forums in technology and engineering. I received honors in Grade 11, Excellence in Mathematics, recognition in Robotics and Coding Club, and certificates from LAU, including a Speech Writing Camp and AI programs.
