Syrian, from Kanaker; seeking Undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Computer Science and is enrolled at American University of Beirut.
My name is Hussein Alassaad. I was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. I am an AUB freshman, Computer Science major. I have no siblings. My parents do not have college degrees, but they taught me the values of hard work, curiosity, and responsibility.
I remember spending time trying to hack a game, which sparked my interest in technology and how things work. That moment was the most influential in my decision to pursue Computer Science.
In 2015, my father passed away during the war. Losing him was a turning point that taught me resilience and responsibility. Even after multiple surgeries, my 58-year-old mother continued to provide for our family, showing me perseverance and dedication. She is my role model. She motivates me daily to work hard and focus on my goals.
Volunteering with Dar El Aytam El Islamiye, Mission Village, OffreJoie, USAID, AUB Volunteering, and Life Sculpture taught me leadership, empathy, and problem-solving. Mentoring students, organizing activities, and enrolling in all volunteering tasks showed me that small actions can have a meaningful impact.
Through dedication to my academic performance and leadership skills, I earned a USAID scholarship. I aim to create programs that improve access to education and technology for underserved youth.
Every day, I am inspired to grow as a student and a leader, give back to my community, and help others reach their full potential. Education is not only my right—it is my way to empower others.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
Having lost my father to war and living as a displaced student, I turn hardship into motivation. My passion for coding drives me to excel in Computer Science, volunteer, and pursue advanced courses. I plan to teach coding and digital literacy to youth in my community and build tech solutions supporting NGOs. Funding me means investing in resilience, service, and leadership.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
Upon graduation, I want to give back by using my skills in Computer Science and AI to create educational programs and practical solutions for organizations. I will mentor displaced students, helping them access education and career opportunities. I will continue volunteering with non-profits that support at-risk youth, providing access to learning and fun activities. I want to share my knowledge and resources to help others overcome challenges and succeed. In short, I aim to give all youth the opportunities they need to reach their academic dreams.
