Syrian, from Homs; seeking Undergraduate degree in Major Earth Sciences & Minor Musicology and is enrolled at University of Mannheim.
On a summer afternoon, when I was eight, I sat on the balcony of our home in the village of Masyaf. In the stillness, I heard rhythms that felt magical. Following the music from our neighbor’s house, I discovered their son playing a 78-stringed instrument.
I began piano and solfeggio at six, but the Qanun became my true musical home. Despite moving between Masyaf and Homs, I pursued formal music education and, two years later, could play Fairouz’s "Amara Ya Amara." Life took unexpected turns. My family moved back to Masyaf and then to Turkey, bringing new responsibilities that made it hard to practice. Months passed without touching my Qanun. Even though my passion for music was challenged, I remained committed to my studies. Throughout high school, I balanced academics with music, and despite being new to Turkey, learned the language in four months and earned honors.
Amidst the challenges of finding belonging and the happiness of my academic achievements, my art teacher invited me to provide music for a poetry event. Playing traditional songs reconnected me with my roots, and my performance was featured in a local magazine. This experience renewed my excitement to share music, inspiring me to showcase my skills on Instagram.
While music remains my home, I have also been fascinated by the natural world, and I aim to pursue a major in Earth Sciences in Germany, with a minor in Musicology. Studying there will allow me to grow academically and musically. With your support, this campaign will make it possible to access higher education and continue developing in both fields.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
Over eight years of music, I had one chance to be in a supportive environment with the right academics. What if the next five years sound like the right conditions to live up to my highest skills? Only through your support will I have the chance to make my dreams come true. Your aid will also empower me to be the bridge between young people's dreams and their circumstances. Through free workshops, music lessons, and the guidance that I plan to provide.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
Once I graduate, I am eager to launch a project that empowers hidden musical talents through engaging workshops and guided learning. Moreover, I aim to make playing in orchestras and in groups of musicians always accessible to them. I want to transform music education from a distant dream into an exciting journey for everyone. Music makes our stories live, and by sharing mine, I hope to spark inspiration and positive change in others.
After earning my degree in Earth Sciences, I am determined to address the serious problem of climate change and help protect our planet and its people's health.
