From Syria, Homs; seeking Undergraduate degree in Business Administration and is enrolled at Karabuk University.
I am OKBA SHAMS ALDIN from Al-Qusayr- Homs. I currently live in Turkey.
My father was a hard worker and successful businessman. He knew how to think outside the box and scale up his investments. He was a master at organizing and optimizing business practices. He taught me how to excel, hands on, by doing. His business flourished and I was the first to learn from the master.
In 2011 we left Homs to Lebanon. We managed to start a business, but the conditions were so unfavorable. In 2014, I left for Turkey.
I focused on learning Turkish – and mastered it. I observed the host community’s business culture. I supported myself and earned my employers’ respect. I passed the Turkish Language Exam with flying colors and was admitted to Karabük University. I completed my freshman year, business major.
I want to rebuild Syria’s destroyed economy. I have the people-skills that guarantee success in business, which is in my DNA. I inherited that from my father . By adding education to the mix, I can help bring back the glory that Syria once held as a prominent stop on the Silk Road Trading Routes.
I learned a lot from my host community. I believe that when peace prevails, I will be able to restore good neighborly trade relations between Syria and Turkey.
I look forward to opening a consulting company specialized in helping startup businesses to attract investment in our region.
Like Montesquieu, I too believe that trade is an instrument of peace.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
By investing in my education and adding technology and communications to the skills that I acquired by experience at a very young age, you will be investing in a new brand of Syrian entrepreneurs who can hopefully bring back to our country the glory it enjoyed as an important stop on the Silk Road routes.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
My father used to tell me that Business schools were the choice of losers in high school.
I beg to differ. Trade is key to global prosperity. It opens the door wide for cultural exchanges and promotes peaceful relations among states. I believe I can be a successful businessman. I will invest part of the proceeds of my business to teach entrepreneurial skills and revive trade among conflicting nations.
