From Syria, Douma; seeking Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and is enrolled at Lebanese International University.
I am Ammar Bakdounsi, 22 years old, from Douma, Damascus countryside, Syria. My sisters are still in grade school. My mother is a housewife. My father holds a B.A. degree in law.
It is a hard to be forced to leave your country and live in an unfamiliar environment. My road was filled with challenges. I wanted to pursue my dream but had to support your family.
I have been unemployed since the outbreak of COVID 19 . I attended college online.
In retrospect, my experience was an opportunity for personal growth and maturity. It was empowering and enriching. It taught me the value of perseverance.
On april 22, the world celebrated Earth Day. Business as usual is no longer an option when environmental degradation and climate change brought about by human activities threaten to end life as we know it.
The auto industry had to respond to the challenge.
Electrical engineers also have to rise to the challenge. The electric car industry will double its share of the market in 2021.
I hope to be among the trailblazers who can manage and maintain electric cars when they eventually find their way to our roads.
That's why my education and interest in cars are the road less taken that I want to be the first to take.
Why Would Donors Fund You?
I believe that I am thinking ahead of my time. My education will prepare for a future that will come, hopefully sooner rather than later, when hybrid and electrical cars arrive in the region.
You will be part of our future, because you are enabling me to be prepared for the moment.
This will be an extra skill that would give me an edge when seeking employment.
How Do You Plan to Payback?
I will be able to train others who have not yet ventured into this field. Job opportunities in the auto repair business are more available to refugees than other careers. Refugees and displaced persons often end up working in this field.
I feel I could expand employment opportunities for displaced persons like myself if I got the proper training in this field.
